Let's Celebrate Duke Ellington Day on April 29th!

Duke Ellington was a famous black composer and a major figure in the history of jazz music.  Some of his best-known songs include "Sophisticated Lady" and "In A Sentimental Mood".  He was born to a middle-class family in Washington D.C.  Both of his parents were performing pianists.  In 1924, his fame grew when he became a band leader and he began recording.  His band performed at the Cotton Club for five years and his performances were broadcast almost nightly.  By 1930, he and his band were famous.  For more information about this talented and influential musician visit his website below:
